Community Educational Counsellor (CEC)

The primary role of the Community Educational Counsellor (CEC) is to support the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families.

The CEC provides support in a variety of ways.

  • Pastoral care (assist in building positive relationships)
  • Improve students wellbeing by providing a link between home and the school
  • Facilitating the growth of a positive cultural identity by organizing and conducting cultural programs and assisting teaches
  • Integrating a positive cultural identity into a wider multicultural society
  • Assist with extra curricular and co-curricula activities for students and parents
  • Working with parents, students and teachers to resolve issues/concerns
  • Assis students in the transition from school to school; from school to work and from school to further education
  • Capacity building

The overall aim is to assist all A & TSI students to improve their academic outcomes and become more informed and active citizens.
