Our Junior Secondary school consists of a core program for Year 7 - Year 9 students. Throughout this phase of learning students are taught by a range of Teachers who are experts in their curriculum areas and enable students to be challenged to incorporate their learning's across all learning areas. Junior Secondary provides students with the ownership of taking on the responsibilities of high school and engages them in more responsible and independent behaviours, whilst forging new and lasting relationships with staff and peers.
Junior Secondary School incorporates the following:
- Quality teaching across a variety of learning areas
- Access for all students to engage in technology across the curriculum
- The iXL Excellence programs (Academic, Sports, STEM and Arts)
- Access to languages - Japanese
- Learning support and modified programs for students with disabilities
- Literacy and Numeracy programs which cater for all levels of ability
- Targeted Reading programs for identified students
- Classes on life skills, health and well-being led by a class mentor Teacher
- Leadership opportunities for Junior Secondary students including strong links with JCU and Industry associations
- Transition program for Year 6 into Year 7
- Leadership and transition to secondary program for Year 8 into Year 9
- Leadership and team building opportunities through school camps in Year 7 and Year 9
- Student case management including support from the Guidance Officer, School Youth Health Nurse, Social Worker, Community Education Counsellor, Chaplain and the Youth Support Co-ordinator.
- Student progress and academic performance reviews including mentor interviews and data tracking
- Holistic approach to behaviour management and classroom expectations
